Diy upholstered crib

When I got pregnant I knew that Maia's brown  stained wood crib need a makeover, to follow hottest trends- paint, fabric and tufting.
Since I love combination of gray with strong, juicy colors, I decided on  hot pink upholstered back panel, and gray body. I was almost 8 month pregnant when I started  this painting project. It  was quite easy. Light sanding with 150 grit sanding paper, priming with this primer:http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/zinsser/primer-sealers/bulls-eye-zero-primer-sealer/ , this is  great primer, it dries in less then hour, and sand to a powder), three light coat of paint founded on Oops paint shelf in Menards for a $1  (it's a steal for a gallon of paint), followed with two coats of Varathane water-based (so no yellowing over time) spar urethane in satin finish.  I used a lint free rags, and wipe it on instead of brush to prevent any drips and runs.

I do not have photos of the steps of work because we did it with my husband on Sunday, and wanted to finish as soon as possible. We started with tracing the shape of the panel and using a jigsaw to cut out  pattern from the pegboard. After measuring I marked the distance between the buttons, we glued  foam with Easy-Tack Spray Adhesive to pegboard, we cut holes in the right places, and cover  foam first with batting and then with fabric. Tufting we started from the center, working around making sure to evenly pulls the fabric. After we've done we used screws that went directly thorough the slats of the back of the crib into the pegboard. Even if I decide to remove the upholstered piece, all I have to do is fill out and paint the holes.

This crib turn out great, I LOVE  IT. Most of the material like a primer, paint and top coat I will use on next projects, so this was chip but beautiful makeover. This is convertible model so it's gonna be great future headboard for Gabi's "adult" bed.
Happy to answer if you have question.
