Dining table refinishing idea

I bought a dining table, 3 years ago on craigslist. It is large, round and have two 12 inches insert leaves, so when it's open we have plenty of space, but since we do not have formal dining room (we do not need it) table is usually close, standing in breakfast nook. This is  mainly space where we eat but also this is my computer desk, craft table for me and Maia, my nail painting spot and  even for couple of months we bathe Gabi on this table.

 Yes this is multifunctional piece in our house. After couple of years of heavy  usage, and because of my new kitchen,  it's time to give it a "spa treatment" I'll use  couple of tools, stain, paint and top coat. For me this is also good piece for first ever tutorial. I hope all goes as it should, and in a few days I will have a "new" old table. Here are couple of ideas what I'm looking to get at the end.
